Welcome, Parents & Families.

Your son joining a fraternity is a big deal — we get that. We want you to know what Alpha Mu is about, how we support our brothers, and how you can stay connected to the chapter.

About Alpha Mu

Alpha Mu has been part of the University of Georgia since 1908. We're one of the oldest Pike chapters in the Deep South, with more than 1,800 brothers across 59 pledge classes.

Our chapter house in Greek Park Circle and is home to 23 live-in brothers and serves as the hub for study hours, chapter meetings, social events, and everyday life. We take pride in maintaining a space that brothers are proud to call home.

Our members hold leadership roles across UGA — in student government, honor societies, orientation, and club sports. We consistently rank above the all-men’s GPA average, and our philanthropy totals climb every year. This past year, we had a 3.61 chapter GPA, ranking in the top 5 of the 28 fraternities at UGA.

What We Offer Your Son

Academic Support

Mandatory study hours for new members, peer tutoring, and a chapter GPA that consistently beats the all-men's average. We take grades seriously because they open doors.

Brotherhood & Mentorship

Every new member is paired with a big brother who helps him navigate college, chapter life, and everything in between. We also put each member in a study group based on their major with older brothers so they can study and learn together. The friendships built here last decades — ask any alumnus.

Leadership Development

From chapter officer positions to campus-wide roles, our brothers learn to lead by doing. Pike's national leadership programs and local chapter opportunities prepare men for life after college.

Frequently Asked Questions

Chapter dues vary by semester and cover national dues, chapter operations, social events, and house maintenance. We're transparent about costs — your son will receive a full breakdown before making any financial commitment. Dues tier down every semester so that freshman pay the most and seniors pay the least, encouraging your son to stay for all 4 years. Payment plans are available.

Living in the house is not required, though many brothers choose to. The house is a great way to build closer bonds and stay engaged with chapter life. Rooms are assigned based on seniority and availability. We are also the only fraternity house at UGA that offers single rooms, so your son can have his own space while living with his best friends. Rent is one of the cheapest in Athens, averaging around $800 a month, which includes a parking spot and a daily cleaning service. Our house is walking distance to all classes.

Brothers are expected to maintain a minimum of a 2.5 GPA set by both Pi Kappa Alpha nationals and UGA's IFC. New members have mandatory study hours, and brothers who fall below the standard receive academic support. Our chapter GPA consistently beats the all-men's average.

Parents are welcome at events like Parents' Weekend and Homecoming. We also keep families informed through periodic email updates. If you have questions at any time, you can reach us at pikealphamu@gmail.com.

The safety of our members is non-negotiable. Alpha Mu follows all Pi Kappa Alpha national policies, UGA IFC regulations, and state laws. We have a dedicated risk management officer and work closely with UGA's Greek Life office to ensure all events and activities meet the highest safety standards. We have a board of alumni who oversees our actions & finances to ensure our security and safety. To connect the head of our alumni advisory board you can contact patensplace@yahoo.com
